“Sometimes he needs to show a little more poise. He’s very emotional and intense, and often that gets him in trouble with personal fouls. He has great hands, is fast, is a team leader and is one of our best kids.”
Blocking is a favorite pastime of Vinny Lochetto.
Lochetto hauled in 11 catches for 142 yards and one touchdown last year. His score was a 2-yard grab in a win at Lycoming, and grabbed two passes apiece in wins over Lebanon Valley, King’s and Widener.
During his senior year at Bishop McDevitt High School, Lochetto did nothing but block for running back Dave Onorato as the lead fullback. Thriving as a blocking fullback, Lochetto attracted college scouts looking for an unselfish, bruising lead blocker.
“My favorite plays are the 12 or 13 blast,” he said. “I take pride in causing head-on collisions ... its you against a linebacker.”

Lochetto’s freshman season was indeed a learning experience. First of all, he played with a cast on his wrist from an injury suffered in his senior year in high school. He had surgery in May and really couldn’t work out in the weight room to prepare for the season.
“My final two choices were Delaware Valley and Lycoming,” Lochetto said.
“Vince is a great competitor, a hard-nose and tough kid,” Clements said.
That’s why position switches from fullback to tight end, and, back to fullback, have been virtually seamless for the Delaware Valley College senior. He has this old-school mentality that welcomes the challenge of smashing full-force into an unexpecting linebacker or safety.
In his sophomore year, Lochetto played mainly on special teams and, occasionally, on some goal line packages. It was during summer camp in his junior season last year when coach Jim Clements and his staff asked him to switch to tight end because of a shortage of players at the position.
Defensively, Delaware Valley is shutting down teams by allowing 8.5 points, 70.8 yards on the ground and 133.5 yards passing.
“I paid my dues as a freshman playing on the scout team,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” Lochetto said. “That experience made me better because I really wasn’t ready [to contribute].”
“The main thing for me was that I wanted to go to a winning and successful program. I knew that Delaware Valley had gone to the Elite 8 in back-to-back 12-win seasons. Also, my uncle [Angelo] told me that he regretted the day he didn’t go to Delaware Valley when he was recruited by them back then.”
In last week’s 38-6 rout of Lebanon Valley College in the MAC opener, Lochetto grabbed two short touchdown passes to help lead the way. On the season, Lochetto, who plays on all special teams, has five receptions for 49 yards on the season.

“We had a senior at fullback ahead of me [Butch Whiteside], so I figured this was a good move for me to get onto the field,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” Lochetto recalled. “I started every game and, after all, I did a lot of blocking and I really liked to do that.”

The Aggies had a solid season by going 7-0 to win the Mid Atlantic Conference (10-2 overall), while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs before losing to Albright.
This year, the media and communications major is back at fullback, ramming defensive players to clear paths for running backs Matt Cook, Kyle Schuberth and Isaiah Hall. The Aggies (3-1, 1-0), ranked 12th on the D3football.com Top 25 poll, are averaging 167.5 rushing yards per game, 208.5 yards through the air and 27.2 points.
